Coronado, the “Crown City” (coronado means “crowned one” in Spanish) lies just over the bridge from downtown San Diego - a beautiful tree-lined beach town with a rich history. Coronado was recently named by the Travel Channel as the Number Two Beach in America and the Number One Beach for families. The weather is temperate from mid-April through September, the surf is not rough, the water is warm, the beaches are wide and the sand is sugary. All of these ingredients make for an ideal beach destination. The main beach is Coronado Central Beach which stretches a mile and a half in front of the gorgeous houses of Ocean Boulevard. Surfers like the waves at North Beach and those with pets enjoy Dog Beach where you can take your dog “sans” leash. Silver Strand State Beach lines the road connecting the island to the mainland and RV camping is welcome here. Glorietta Bay Beach has a small sandy beach with a playground and park. The “island” is 7.4 square miles in size, and has more to offer than just world class beaches. Coronado Village is a great place to shop and eat, with its many unique boutiques and restaurants. There are two marinas, a golf course, parks, and many beautiful Victorian homes and California bungalows to admire. The famous Hotel del Coronado is a legend on the island, as well as the Naval Amphibious Base at North Island where the Navy Seals train.
